The music was fresh, it was different and it catapulted Vampire Weekend from nowhere to everywhere, and fast. Their self-titled breakout was quirky and-despite some critics who ostentatiously grappled with the disparate elements-it made most indie bloggers very, very happy to have something new to talk about. Koenig had to put a lot of time and effort into making sure that each of those three albums was unique, that each of them broke new ground. “Over the course of three albums, we went on a journey from youth to the end of youth,” he says.
